July 29, 2007. Atlas Van Lines and Miss Budweiser provided the thunder on the Columbia River for years with their piston-powered engines. Sunday, the two vintage boats took to the water and went head-to-head in an exhibition race, reaching speeds of nearly 130 mph. Driven by the legendary Chip Hanauer, the restored 1982 Atlas Van Lines led the three-lap exhibition race the entire way, but the 1980 Miss Budweiser, with a Rolls Royce Griffon engine, overtook Hanauer at the finish line.
